1st Chemo Treatment

On Monday, September 22, I had my first chemo treatment after being diagnosed with cancer....lymphoma. My mom and sister, Linda went with me. We were there for 8 hours. From the beginning, the oncologist was very vague about everything. We were not prepared to be there that long as he didn't let us know before. I didn't have a good connection with him or his team. My friend, Pam works for the cancer center in Fishers and she highly recommended seeing the oncologist, Dr. Morgan. I was able to get in to see her on Friday, September 26th. She spent 2 hours with me, my mom, and Linda, answering questions and going over everything. So I changed over to her and her team. They work out of Clarian North Hospital. Dr. Morgan explained that the cancer is in my back, spine, tonsils, and gall bladder. It is Stage 4. Because it is so aggressive, she will be doing 8 rounds of chemo, with radiation towards the end. The good news is that it is treatable. The treatment will be once every 3 weeks and will last 6 to 7 hours each time. I was very weak after my first treatment on that Monday and Tuesday but was able to return to work on Wednesday and Thursday. One of the side effects was that I had metal mouth..... everything I eat or drink taste like metal. My next treatment will be Monday, October 13th at 9:00 a.m. I know many are praying and so appreciate that. God is good and I know He will walk along side me on this journey.

Yay Patty! I'm glad you figured out how to post on your blog. Yeah, metal mouth was no fun. Orbit Sweet Mint gum was my salvation, as was "spa water"--cutting up oranges, lemons and lime and putting them in a pitcher of water in the fridge. (you have to start over every 24 hours or so or it starts to taste bitter). Milkshakes and other things with a similar consistency also seemed to work for some reason.
I hope you're feeling well--take good care of yourself so you're ready for your next round! I pray daily for you. Please let me know if you have questions or if there's anything you need...
Love,
Debbie

Wow Patty,
I am glad you have started this blog. It will help me feel more connected with your situation and know better how to pray for you. I think of you often and wish I could be there to help and spend time with you. You have always been an example to me of deep unwavering faith. I pray that you will feel very close to God during this time.
Thinking of you from Raleigh, NC.
